God is Hidden Within Us

God is hidden within us. The Word, the Son of God, together with the Father and the Holy Ghost, is hidden in essence and in presence, in the inmost being of the soul. The soul, therefore, that will find Him, must go out from all things in will and affection, and enter into the profoundest self-recollection, and all things must be to it as if they existed not.

St. John of the Cross

John of the Cross is also known as the Doctor of Mysticism.  He had written many books based on his experiences. One of them is the Dark Night of the Soul and the Living Flame of Love. He was born in Spain in June 24, 1542 and named as Juan de Yepes y Álvarez. After he was ordained as priest, he first thought of joining the Carthusian order in Medina del Campo, Spain. Then he met St. Teresa of Avila. By God’s providence, he joined the new founding order of the Discalced Carmelite friars on November 28, 1568, and changed his name to John of the Cross.
